Remembering Reservoir Dogs: The Making of a #$%#@ Classic

51EM3DPJBHL._SL500_AA300_Reservoir Dogs, Quentin Tarantino’s #$%#@ breakthrough, made its debut 20 years ago this week. Lawrence Bender, who produced that film (and others including Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds and An Inconvenient Truth), talked with Hollywonk about the experience of getting the movie made, starting with his thoughts when he first read Tarantino’s script:

He wrote that script in three weeks, and he gave it to me and I was just thrilled and said, “Let’s do it.” And he said, “I’m a director who hasn't directed, therefore I don’t exist.”

Tarantino was ready to make Reservoir Dogs in black and white, with $50,000 he would get for writing True Romance. But Bender said he “knew this was too big for that” and talked Tarantino into giving him time to raise more money. And the rest is movie history.

Hear Bender tell the story here.
