'Remote Control' Host Ken Ober Dies at 52
Comedian and longtime MTV host Ken Ober, best known for the game show "Remote Control," has died. He was 52. The cause of his death was not determined at press time. His talent agent tells TV Guide that no suicide or foul play is suspected, but he had complained of headaches and flu-like symptoms the day before.
Anyone who watched MTV in the '80s will fondly remember "Remote Control," in which contestants sat in Lay-Z-Boys, ate popcorn and answered pop-culture questions. It was also the launching pad for Adam Sandler, Denis Leary, and Collin Quinn (who had his own category, "Sing Along With Collin").
Said Sandler in a statement to MTV News: "Ken Ober was one of the sharpest, quickest, sweetest guys I ever met. He was always a great friend and I will miss him very much."
Here's a clip of Sandler back in the day, as Quinn and Kari Wuhrer giggle in the background. I always wanted to be on this show and played the category "Dead or Canadian?". Especially the bonus round where you have to name all nine music videos on nine video screens in under a minute. Farewell, Ken Ober. --Ellen
