Here's a trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes movie, opening on Christmas Day 2009, and starring Robert Downey Jr. as the title sleuth, Jude Law as his trusty Dr. Watson, and--ooh!--Rachel McAdams as the beauteous and cunning Irene Adler. It'll directed by Guy Ritchie. --David

Mystery, sex, humor, adventure - I'm there!
And, Jude Law, Yum!
I'm so glad Robert Downey Jr. has overcome his troubled past and is doing what he does so well - act!

Oh goody, we can take one of the most complicated and cerebral characters in fiction and turn him into an cheesy action hero complete with gasoline explosions in Victorian England. Honestly, if they didn't keep saying the character was Sherlock Holmes would you even have guess it from the trailer?
Where is Holme's deductive powers, his misanthropy, his desert dry wit? Many sins against literature has Hollywood committed but this looks like one of the worst.
I shall console myself with my old Jeremy Brett episodes of Mystery.

RE: Oh Dear....
Definitely different. But I think Jeremy Brett did it better.
However, I will point out there there are some parallels of interest between the famed consulting detective and Robert Downy Jr.....
....they're both drug addicts.

It appears they thought Sherlock Holmes should be reconfigured as a Victorian era James Bond. They are all English anyway, aren't they -- the logic must have gone. This trailer even shared a key line with the trailer for the recent "Quantum of Solace", to quote: "Then we don't have much time, do we"?

On the one hand, I am a big Downey fan.
On the other hand, I am a bigger Sherlock Holmes fan. Almost 40 years of watching Holmes on TV and the movies and reading the books. My father is a Holmes fanatic and member of the Criterion Bar Assoc. So, as a big time fan, I am appalled. Sherlock Holmes as a scruffy, sex maniac, action hero? W T F?
This is not a 'reinterpretation' that needed to be made.

The last time Guy Ritchie did a remake was Lina Wertmuller's Swept Away! How did that turn out? Plus he hasn't really had an interesting film since Snatch in 2000.

Wow...I'm utterly agog. Several quick points:
a) Anyone retarded enough to marry Madonna has to be retarded enough to make this sh*t.
b) Meh, why bother and make the rest?
This is possibly the worst concept for a movie since...hmmm, can't think of a comparison. As much as I have enjoyed RD Jr as of late, this idea is an unreal perversion of Sherlock Holmes, and the idea of Jude Law as Dr. Watson is like featuring Charles Manson as John Paul II. I hope this movie fails spectacularly.

We are huge Sherlock Holmes fans but will pass. There is nothing about the cast or director we respect or will pay $$ to see. Whose awful idea was this? It is inconceivable that Hollywood can do this without utterly ruining it.
Oh, to have Basil Rathbone back...

Yeah, I have to add that Jude Law is one of the worst actors alive. Seriously.

oh gosh, it's entertainment folks. I think it looks fun. Re-interpretations are welcome, IMO.

Thank you, Nate.

I never read any of the books, yet this looks freaking great. If your boxer are all in a bunch because its not the "real" Holmes... then go make your own Sherlock Holmes movie. Big deal. I want to see this cause it looks like its fun and full of action.
