What's your favorite Christmas song from a movie?
So it's December the 24th, but I'm not longing to be up North (there's plenty of snow where I am, thanks very much). But even if I don't need to dream of a White Christmas, I can still enjoy the song. What are your favorite Christmas songs that came from movies? Here are the ones I immediately thought of:
- "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" from Meet Me in St. Louis: Judy Garland's heart-rendingly bittersweet song has become a classic.
- "White Christmas" from Holiday Inn (clip below): Yes, the 1954 semi-remake titled after the song is more famous, but the song debuted when Bing Crosby sang it to Marjorie Reynolds in this 1942 charmer. White Christmas has its own set of original songs, of course, including "Sisters" and "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep," but I'd only consider "Snow" seasonal-related.
- "Silver Bells" from The Lemon Drop Kid: I admit I've never seen this Bob Hope flick but have sung the song many times.
- "Somewhere in My Memory" from Home Alone: There were a number of good songs written for this movie and its sequels, including "Somewhere in My Memory," "Christmas Star," and "Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas."
- "Believe" and others from The Polar Express: Others include "When Christmas Comes to Town" and "Spirit of the Season."
- Something from The Nightmare Before Christmas: I admit I've seen this only once and am not the world's biggest fan. Anyone care to nominate a song?
- "Baby, It's Cold Outside" from Neptune's Daughter: Maybe not technically holiday-related, but it's a great song so close enough!
And of course we can't ignore the great songs that have come from TV shows. The holiday season would be much quieter without:
- "Christmastime Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas
- "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" from How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
- The title songs from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, The Little Drummer Boy, and Frosty the Snowman (all available in one set) don't technically count because the Rankin-Bass TV specials were based on the songs, but those specials did produce their own memorable songs such as "Silver and Gold."
- And I have to mention the Heat and Snow Miser songs from The Year Without a Santa Claus.
- EDIT: Forgot to mention "Walking in the Air" from The Snowman
Anyone care to name other favorites? Hope you enjoy your holiday season! --David

It's got to be Mele Kalikimaka by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters. The movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and it is in the Christmas movie rotation at our house every Christmas!
