Fall TV: Why Are All My Favorites On at the Same Time???
FOX was the first out of the Fall TV gate, launching news seasons of Bones and Prison Break last week, among other things. So far, so good, but as the season goes on, and more shows launch, my TiVo's going to be on overdrive. In fact, both of my TiVos are going to be on overdrive. My three toughest timeslots:
Monday, 8-9 p.m. (Chuck vs. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles vs. The Big Bang Theory/How I Met Your Mother vs. Gossip Girl vs. Dancing with the Stars): Io9.com put this faceoff at the top of their list, but sci-fi site that it is, Io9 left off Gossip Girl and Dancing entirely and underestimated the value of the Big Bang/How I Met Your Mother. There aren't many sitcoms on the air right now, but the ones that have found a way to thrive -- like Big Bang and Mother -- are absolutely worth your 22 minutes. (You've got some time to get ready for this one timeslot duel: Gossip is already going and Terminator starts tonight, but the other shows come later this month.)
Thursday, 9 p.m. (Grey's Anatomy vs. The Office/30 Rock vs. CSI vs. Supernatural vs. Kitchen Nightmares): Every one of these shows is great, and each one appeals to a different side of me. There's the romance, the comedies, the slick procedural, the spooky/funny thing and the screamin' reality. Kitchen Nightmares starts this week, with the other premieres stretching into October. I am so glad I don't have to choose, you know, thanks to online video, TiVo, etc.
All right ... how 'bout you? -- Stephanie Reid-Simons, TV Demander

My worse night is Thursday nights at 8 pm: Survivor vs Smallville vs Ugly Betty vs NBC's sitcoms
