BDLive
Humans cannot seem to get away from technology anymore --we all know this-- but with the induction of BDLive for Blu-ray players we are becoming even more connected. This technology connects your movie experience to the internet, allowing you access to all kinds of downloadable goodies pertaining to the film you are watching. Wallpapers, games, ringtones, live chat, and anything else studios might provide to extend your Blu-ray experience.
Why would you want to chat on your Blu-ray player with, say, a WoWer living in his mom's RV? Well that person is probably fairly interesting, but more to the point, to establish a community around the product. What are similar titles you might enjoy? Can I get a funny sound-clip of that to send to my friends? These are some possibilities of BDLive.
The film Transformers uses some particularly cool BDLive functionality through MyClips, allowing users to save and share video clips with other users. Apart from online features, when a certain transformer appears in the movie, facts about that bot will pop-up. Another feature will keep track of the damage sustained by the robot throughout the movie.
The BDLive concept is greater than just adding up points and chatting online with fellow bed-wetters, however. It is a major stepping stone to a completely digital era. And though I don't think hard copy media will ever completely disappear, the necessity for humans to connect their interests will always remain vivid. BDLive provides.
